Steve Jobs says OSX-Intel pirates are going to hell. I, for one, do not think that is the case. I am excited by the move to Intel by Apple. And like John Dvorak, I think this is just the opening volley in Jobs’ plan to sell OSX independent of proprietary hardware. Please, please, please let this be true.
I found an enterprising “how-to” for getting a hacked version of OSX running on Intel now. Soon, I am going to try to do this myself. Will it be a production box? Nope. It will be an experiment. And, I’ll tell you why Jobs should embrace a hardware-agnostic version of OSX-Intel. Because folks like me are constantly building and supporting Windows PCs for our friends and families. If I could wipe their drives of Windows and install OSX, I would. In most cases folks would pay for the OSX license and in those that would not, I would seriously consider buying it for them rather than being forced to support Windows any longer.
Longhorn/Vista is too little too late. Microsoft is not going away … and good for them. Unlike a lot of Alternate OS advocates, I do not think of Microsoft as the evil empire. They have a lot to offer, but the world needs a better defacto standard for an OS. Dvorak is letting the world know as well.

I’ve recently been getting into podcasts. My two favorites so far are diggnation and TWIT. diggnation is a hilarious geek-fueled discussion of the top stories over at digg.com. This Week In Tech (TWIT) is basically all of the former TechTV Screensavers, on a podcast. Good stuff all around.

Internet companies are making an aggressive and unprecedented push into services traditionally offered by phone and cable companies — threatening to upend the business of transmitting voice and data.
Google Inc. unveiled the latest such effort Friday with a proposal to provide free, wireless high-speed Internet access in the city of San Francisco. The service would allow users to bypass fee-based connections of cable and local phone companies in favor of wireless links.
Users could log on through computers and email, surf the Web, download music or do anything else they can do with a traditional Internet connection — including, potentially, make phone calls with voice-over IP, or VOIP, technology.
The Wall Street Journal reports on how Google’s Wireless Plan Underscores Threat to Telecom. Free wifi in San Francisco. It is about time this sort of infrastructure planning starts happening. Ironically enough, my father-in-law and I were just discussing this the night before. Great minds!

Here is an idea for WordPress.com. Add an option for “Import Links” that lets me enter the URL and login info for my independent WordPress site. Then, I can suck in those links here with ease.

Raise your voice for Apple OSX and Linux Game Development
Posted by Doug under Apple & OSX, LinuxNo Comments
The video games industry is huge. The market is so big that Hollywood has taken notice. Geeks like you and I know that games (as well as pr0n) have long driven the development and mass-market adoption of new technologies.
So, while you may not be a fan of computer role-playing games (CRPG), if you are a fan of Apple OSX or Linux, take a moment and drop by Atari’s Neverwinter Nights 2 (NWN2) Multi-Platform Support Petition. Let Obsidian, Bioware and Atari all know that you appreciate Apple OSX and Linux support for the first Neverwinter Nights and would appreciate it on all future games they develop.
And, if you are a blogger write a similar post on your site. Let’s spread the word grassroots style.

I am an avid WordPress user and maintain several websites using this wonderful tool. When WordPress.com launched, I had to check it out. So, I’ve decided to use this space to specifically post information about Apple OSX and Linux.
